This week’s grantee spotlight is Community Action of Orleans & Genesee Counties. They received an $8K grant for a workforce development program for women released from prison. Women in Orleans & Genesee Counties earn about 80% of what a man will earn in a similar position (9% less than the statewide average). During July and August, Community Action had six mass food distributions planned, and served close to 2,000 families (of which, approximately 70% are headed by women). When asked what Community Action of Orleans & Genesee learned during the Covid-19 pandemic, staff stated they learned about “the resilience of people”.
