Resource Fairs Scheduled

Community Action plans 3 mobile resource fairs this month with 15 agencies

ALBION – Community Action of Orleans & Genesee has announced a mobile community resource fair will be visiting locations in Lyndonville, Holley and Albion in May.

This event is made possible through the efforts Community Action’s Axis of Care program, which works to ensure equitable access to resources in all areas of the county.

Representatives from 15 local agencies will be on hand to provide information about programs and services available across Orleans County. Participating organizations include Community Action of Orleans and Genesee, Fidelis, VIA WNY/211, GCASA, UMMC Healthy Living, Orleans County Office for the Aging, Orleans County Mental Health, Roswell Park, Medicare, SNAP Ed, Oak Orchard Community Health, United Way and Cancer Services Program GOWN.

Fair dates and times are as follows:

  • Thursday, May 4 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Lyndonville Presbyterian Church, 107 N. Main St. in Lyndonville – raffling off a $50 TOPS gift card, (2) $25 Save a Lot gift cards and several $15 food checks.

  • Thursday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Holley Fire Hall, 7 Thomas St. in Holley
  • Thursday, May 25 – 10am – 12pm @ HOAG Library (134 S. Main St, Albion NY 14411)

To encourage participation, vendors will be distributing raffle tickets to visitors who stop by their tables for information. Daily raffle prizes will include a $50 gift card, two $25 gift cards and several $15 food checks. In addition, one lucky grand prize winner will receive a $100 Wegmans gift card, which will be announced at the end of May.

Affirming Fatherhood Virtual Event – May 4th

The NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) is hosting its annual New York Fatherhood Convening in recognition of Affirming Fatherhood, Building Stronger Families, Safer Communities.  On Thursday May 4 (via Airmeet) and on Friday June 2 (at SUNY Queens EOC) DYCD will join our Fatherhood participants, partner agencies, community stakeholders, and the general public in bringing awareness to and affirming the role of fathers through parenting.

Studies have shown that a father’s involvement has a considerable impact on the well-being and outcomes of their children. Young people who grow up with involved fathers experience improved mental, emotional, educational, and social outcomes, and are more likely to do better in school and less likely to be involved in teen pregnancy and the justice system.

With more than 20 interactive workshops, attendees will have the opportunity to connect with fatherhood leaders who are leading the change, gain insight, inspiration, and receive resources and support.  Please feel free to share widely – we would love for dads in our community to register and participate!

The Lyndonville Lion’s Pop-Up Eyeglass Clinic is this Saturday beginning at 10 am. The exam and glasses are completely free!!!
Last year we had a huge turnout so keep in mind it is first come, first served. Please spread to word to anyone who can use a little extra help seeing the world more clearly.
