Food Distribution Dates through June

The schedule is set for the food distribution program on Fridays, at 8:30am.

 

May 14 – Community Action Main Street Store, 113 South Main St., Albion

May 21 – Orleans County Cornell Cooperative Extension, 4-HFairgrounds on Route 31 in Knowlesville

May 28 – Community Action Main Street Store, 113 South Main St., Albion

June 4 – Orleans County Cornell Cooperative Extension, 4-H Fairgrounds on Route 31 in Knowlesville

June 11 – Community Action Main Street Store, 113 South Main St., Albion

June 18 – No distribution

June 25 – Ridgeway Fire Department, 11392 Ridge Rd., Medina

Anyone interested in volunteering can call the Office for the Aging at (585) 589-3191. Volunteers in particular are needed for the distributions in June.

A Successful Spring Cleaning!

At our Batavia site, Spring Cleaning went very well on May 6th!
We got rid of 80% of everything! What we didn’t get rid of we gave to Quota.
We had agencies attend and all enjoyed it very much! Our volunteers are to be commended for their hard work as well. Mark Malaniak is awesome and such a huge help all the time. He should get an award. He is always so pleasant and helps out whenever and wherever he can! I think he only gets paid for limited hours and donates a lot of hours to our agency. He’s a true gem and exemplifies our mission!!  The Wx crew helped to set up the tent that morning and all went great.

FCC Announces Emergency Broadband Benefit Start Date

This morning, the FCC announced that on May 12, 2021, eligible households will be able to apply for the Emergency Broadband Benefit.

In announcing the official launch date, Acting Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel stated: “Families in every corner of the country have been struggling to get online throughout this pandemic. For those families, we now say help is around the corner. In less than two weeks, we will have a new way for disconnected Americans to access the internet to carry out their day-to-day life, so they can reach the virtual classroom, take advantage of telehealth, and seek new employment opportunities.” 

Beginning on May 12 households can apply in three ways: 

1.  Contact your preferred particpating broadband provider directly to learn about their application process. 

2.  Go to GetEmergencyBroadband.org to apply online and to find participating providers near you. 

3.  Call 833-511-0311 for a mail-in application, and return it along with proof of eligibility to: Emergency Broadband Support Center, P.O. Box 7081, London, KY 40742 

Earlier this week the FCC hosted a webinar that provided an overview of the benefit, eligibility criteria, how to apply, and the FCC’s partner toolkit materials. If you missed the event live, a recording can be viewed online.

Vaccination Appointments Available

Slots available at vaccination clinics this week in Orleans, Genesee

There are opportunities this week for Orleans County residents to get the Covid-19 vaccine at a mass clinic.

The Genesee and Orleans County Health Departments have first dose Moderna vaccination clinics with appointments available targeting those who are 18 and older and open for any New York State individuals, who reside, work or study in the state.

There will be a clinic on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Ridgeway Fire Hall on Route 104. As of 5:10 p.m., there are currently 116 appointment spots available. Click here to register.

There will be a clinic Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon at GCC in Batavia at the college’s athletic center. There are currently 169 spots available. Click here to register.

Walk-ins will be accepted at both clinics from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

“We want to see all of these clinics filled up with those who can also commit to returning for the second dose of the Moderna vaccine 28 days later,” said Paul Pettit, public health director in the two counties.

Vaccine registration help line: Both counties are offering vaccination clinic registration via phone – these numbers are for Covid vaccination registration only.

In Orleans, call (585) 589-3170. In Genesee, call (585) 815-7168. For both numbers ask for the vaccine registration help line. The vaccine registration help line is not associated with either Public Health Department. The individuals who answer the phone can only assist with registering for a Covid-19 clinic.

Thank You Girl Scouts!

Girl Scouts Troops 82007 and 82261, came together for a community service project today 4/25/2021, as a thank you to Genesee Orleans Community Action for allowing them to use the Albion Main Street Thrift Store parking lot for a covid-safe cookie sale drive-thru this year.

Kinzie Rickner, Meadow Smith, Aniela Wilson, Neveya Barnes, Aubrey Gannon and Kaylin Gannon did a Wonderful Job making the sign and Garden beautiful for the company and community alike!
